The Golden Dip

Date Curry Dip as a Side Dish

Whether you’re invited to a BBQ or planning a picnic at the park or beach, this creamy, spiced date dip is a crowd-pleaser that’s both easy to make and sure to impress. I first stumbled across this gem at a German BBQ years ago, and it’s been a staple in my kitchen ever since.

I’ve tweaked it over the years, using only the best ingredients—think plump Medjool dates, indulgent high-fat cream cheese, and a magical curry blend that brings a bit of 1001 Nights to your taste buds. One of my Amsterdam friends, who’s a barista (obviously) with pretty high standards, fell head over heels for this dip. Now, it’s become a mandatory dish at every party we throw.

Serves 10

Preparation 10 minutes

    • 150 g pitted and chopped Medjool dates

    • 1 garlic clove

    • 1 tbsp olive oil

    • 150 g cream cheese

    • 100 g heavy sour cream

    • 2 tsp Golden Powder or your preferred curry powder

    • Pinch of salt & pepper

    • Keep some chopped dates for garnish

    1. In a large bowl, whisk the cream cheese and heavy sour cream until smooth and creamy.

    2. Roughly blend the chopped dates and olive oil. Then add the date paste, spices, and a pinch of salt and pepper to the cream cheese mixture and stir until everything is well combined.

    3. Spoon the mixture into a serving bowl. For extra flair, drizzle with additional chopped dates and a sprinkle of extra spices.

    4. Place the dip in the fridge to firm up for at least 30 minutes before serving.

    • Serve with raw veggies, crusty bread, or pita chips.

    • This dip can be prepared ahead and stored in the fridge for up to three days, just give it a quick stir before serving!
